The cruise line took delivery of the brand-new Edge Class ship at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in St. Nazaire, France. As a sucker for sweets, I couldn't help but try the strawberry creme brulee while marveling at the French-style desserts available. I felt like I was in a local patisserie in Paris looking at the delicate display of pastries and sweets - certainly not something I'd expect to find on a cruise ship. On a brighter note, we made our way to the top deck while looking for the Oceanview Cafe buffet for lunch. The Solarium is a signature venue on both Celebrity and Royal Caribbean ships. Along with bars, the Grand Atrium is a natural gathering location with its high-energy and welcoming environment.

After the Caribbean season, from December to April, the Celebrity Ascent will cross the Atlantic and begin its sailings in Europe for the summer of 2024, specifically in the Mediterranean region. While in Europe for the summer of 2024, Celebrity Ascent will visit countries such as Greece, Italy, Turkey, Spain, and France. Like other Edge Class ships, Celebrity Ascent has an immersive-style theatre that is unlike anything at sea. The Theatre has multiple stages, moving staircases, and curved screens to blur the lines between the stage and the audience. Eden is filled with greenery on the walls and ceiling, which is accented with green decor around the space.
The Newest Celebrity Ships Being Built
Speaking of entertainment, Celebrity Ascent also features six brand-new production shows. Although our sailing is only two nights, we were able to see a few of these new performances. This space has a European vibe from the white arches to the green tiled backsplashes. You’ll find multiple levels of seating in The Sunset Bar, along with plush daybeds surrounding the ship’s aft to sip on a cocktail.
Jewelry and watch collections will be featured at the ship’s Piaget boutique, along with sister brand Cartier, and in a standalone shop by Bvlgari, offering jewelry, handbags, accessories, and other luxe goods. The cruise line believes the premium offerings will be appreciated by Celebrity Cruises’s upscale guests. “My stateroom, 9164, was a Sky Suite, with a king bed facing a private terrace and a clever roll-open mirror that let natural light into the spacious bathroom. There is truly no better spot to connect with the ocean and sea views, and the Sunset Bar was designed with this idea specifically in mind.
It's also the perfect place to watch the sunset and the ship's wake, which is a favorite view of many cruisers. One of the changes made with Celebrity Ascent was also an expanded and redesigned restaurant for Le Voyage, which features a menu created by Chef Daniel Boulud. Similar to Celebrity Beyond, you’ll find an even grander space designated at the heart of the ship. By the end of the night, the Grand Plaza was filled with people dancing and drinking martinis. With Celebrity Ascent's inaugural season just beginning, we were lucky enough to be invited on a two-night media sailing onboard the brand-new ship. As a note, this quick sailing was paid for by the cruise line, but all opinions are my own.
The leafy Hoppen-designed Rooftop Garden is bigger on Celebrity Beyond than on previous vessels with two eye-popping new plunge pools cantilevered seven meters over the edge of the ship. Many of the most tactile spaces onboard have been designed by Paris-based Jouin Manku. An elegant mesh screen that wraps around sections of the upper levels of the Grand Plaza, for example, is made up of 12 different materials that you’re instinctively drawn to run your fingers over.
